Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday said Association of South-East Asian Nations (ASEAN) lies at the core of India’s Act East Policy and welcomes India-ASEAN cooperation on Indo-Pacific outlook. Addressing the India-ASEAN Summit, Modi said the Association of SouthEast Asian Nations is an “integral part of our Act East Policy and will always remain. An integrated, united and progressive ASEAN is in the interest of India.”

Prime Minister Narendra Modi said India is keen to strengthen partnership in the fields of maritime security, blue economy and humanitarian aid and proposed $1 billion Line of Credit (LoC) for boosting physical and digital connectivity with the 10-bloc economically rising Southeast Asian region. The Prime Minister also said implementation of the decisions taken during the former summits have facilitated closer ties between the two sides. Addressing the summit, Thailand Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha hailed India’s Act East policy. He said that this has strengthened partnership between the two countries.

Earlier in the day, the Prime Minister during the event pitched India as the favoured investment destination. “I am eager to give you a picture of some positive changes happening in India today. I say this with full confidence- this is the best time to be in India! In today’s India, many things are rising and many are falling,” he said during his address at the event.
