Jayalalithaa found guilty

The special court in Bangalore has pronounced the verdict in the disproportionate assets case against J Jayalalithaa.

12:20: She found guilty

11:46 am: The judgment in Jaya’s DA case adjourned till 1pm

11: 40 am: Chaotic scenes near the court premises, unruly supporters of Jayalalithaa lathicharged. 

11: 36 am: If Jaya is convicted for less than three years, she gets one month to appeal. If she gets convicted for more than three years, she will be taken to jail immediately. But in both situations she ceases to be an MLA. Of course, there is also a possibility that the judge may acquit her.

11: 32 am: John Michael D’Cunha will read judgement anytime now. Prosecution and defence lawyers inside the court, along with all accused.

11: 29 am: Four BSF companies have been deployed at the special court to manage the crowd. AIADMK supporters have been asked to keep away from the court premises. Many Tamil Nadu ministers among them.

10.58 am: There are four accused in the case. Jayalalithaa, Sasikala and Ilavarasi arrived together in the same convoy while the fourth accused VN Sudhakaran had arrived earlier.

10.53 am: Jayalalithaa should be convicted, says Subramanian Swamy. He filed the original case against her.
