The President of India Mr. Pranab Mukerji has appointed Mrs.Kiren Bedi as the Lt. Governor of Puducherry, a post held by the Andamans and Nicobar Lt. Governor for the past two years as a an additional charge.
Mrs. Bedi aged 66, the BJP CM candidate in 2015 Delhi assembly elections stated that she was grateful to the goverment for trusting her . She added that she would look forward for giving every bit of herself to the responsibility.
She is the first woman IPS officer to ocupy the high post. An appointment came just days after the congress DMK alliance came to power in Pudducherry which was vacant all these days.
