Andhra pradesh opposition party YSR Congress leaders on Tuesday presented a letter to President Ram Nath Kovind asking for his intercession to sway the Central Government to concede Special Category Status (SCS) to Andhra Pradesh state .

Recently, Andhra Pradesh Cabinet settled the stratagy for the one-day hunger strike-drove by Andhra pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu over a similar issue. Andhra pradesh Chief Minister will sit on hunger strike on April 20 in Vijayawada against the Center over the request of Special Category Status.
The Center and Andhra Pradesh government have been at the loggerheads over the Special Category Status issue as far back as the declaration of 2018-19 Union Budget. The Telugu Desam Party affirmed that the BJP-drove Center overlooked the request of Special Category Status to Andhra Pradesh in the financial plan.
The issue strengthened in the wake of decision Andhra party-Telugu Desam Party (TDP) separated its collusion with the BJP in the state.
