YSR Congress Party on Monday strongly condemned attacks on Dalits after TDP has come to power and demanded an enquiry into the incidents by a sitting judge.

Speaking to the media in Hyderabad, party SC  Cell Convener M Nagarjuna said “there are numerous incidents of attacks on dalits in Andhra Pradesh and even dalit officials are being harassed while the State is not giving their due share in welfare as per the sub-plan.”

“To cite a few examples, YSRCP Kurnool district SC Cell president was recently murdered and there were attacks in Rapthadu and Tadipatri constituency where nine dalits were injured. In Srikakulam district a Sub-Inspector has committed suicide and the TDP leader responsible for his death remains untouched.

The same is the case in Ponnuru constituency where our Party worker Kuchipudi Gandhi has committed suicide and the legislator responsible was not dealt with firmly. There were cases of attacks on our party dalit cadre in Sathunapalli constituency and a field assistant died in Narsaraopet constituency unable to bear the harassment of TDP workers.

State Minister Atcham Naidu goes on record telling that he needs officials of his liking and dalits are being discriminated by TDP at all levels.

We demand that the State should order an inquiry by a sitting judge on the growing attacks on dalits and the progress made on the cases registered,” he said.

The State has failed to spend the amount allocated to us in the sub-plan and we will teach a fitting lesson to TDP in the ensuing elections.
