Telangana Government to get back Nizam’s Jewellery

Telangana CM K. Chandrasekhar Rao announced yesterday that the Telangana Rashtra Samiti government will bring baack the history of the Nizams and do its best to make sure that the fabled jewellery of the erstwhile ruling family returns to Hyderabad from Delhi.
He proposed a book to highlight the history and glory of Nizam rule and the erstwhile Hyderabad State. MIM legislator in Telangana Assembly, Akbaruddin Owaisi encouraged Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao to bring back Nizam’s jewellery , that is as of now in New Delhi.
The spotlight back on 173 pieces of exquisite jewellery of the royal family, which lie locked in Reserve Bank of India vaults in Delhi. Nizam’s family renewed their long-standing demand to bring the treasure back to the city.
Hyderabad to RBI lockers way back in 1995 after Government of India bought the treasures from Nizam’s trust for an officially recorded sum of Rs 218 crore. Today, rough estimates peg its value at a staggering Rs 50,000 crore.
Calling it the character of Hyderabad, the MIM pioneer said that the jewellery can be brought back according to the Center’s tenets if any individual from the regal family will hand over the King Koti Palace to protect the jewellery in safe custody.
He asked the Telangana government to seek after the case and guarantee the jewellery return back to Hyderabad. Reacting to this, Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao proclaimed on Thursday that the state government would recover the jewellery of the past Nizam of Hyderabad, and take it back to the city.
The Nizam Osman Ali Khan’s own jewellery comprises of more than 150 pieces that are at display in a RBI vault in New Delhi.
The cost of the valuable jewellery has been pegged by the antiquarians to be a few thousand crores with the substantial 185-carat Jacob diamond, which the Nizam used to use as a paperweight, incorporated into the collection .
K. Chandrasekhar Rao said he would take up the issue with the Centre, and the government will make all efforts to bring back the jewellery to Hyderabad.
