Cockfights are the principal thing that strikes every one mind if the topic is about Sankranthi festival season. Not just from Telangana, People from other different States visit Andhra pradeesh amid this sankranthi celebration period for wagering on their most loved roosters .
On December 26 last year, the Hyderabad High Court directed the Andhra Pradesh government to take all possible measures to prevent cockfights during the Sankranti (Pongal) festival.
Like the traditional bull-taming sport of Jallikattu, cockfights are extremely popular in Andhra Pradesh and have been one of the major draws during the festival. Betting worth crores of rupees take place during the annual traditional sport.
Cockfights usually feature two roosters, often fitted with razor-sharp blades on their legs, fighting till one of them dies or gets grievously injured.
Since couple of years, It has turned out to be consistent practice that consent was allowed for a 3-day time period damaging the court order . But as per the reports this time,Andhra pradesh State Government chose to offer its assent much ahead of before .
May be , This tremondus reaction from the Andhra pradesh state govt is because of the Jallikattu influence . Andhra Pradesh Home Minister Nimmakayala Chinna Rajappa formally reported Cockfights are allowed for the Sankranthi celebration going on for three days.
In the meantime, He focused on the requirement for regarding the law separated from proceeding with the traditions . For the coming Sankranthi in 2018, Cockfights going to be hung on a gigantic level as Home Minister himself offered a green flag.
Individuals have just achieved the conclusion that there willn’t be any harm in proceeding with the tradition for two more days. However, We have to wait and see …. How will Courts respond on it….
