Aadhaar Mandatory for getting Driving Licence and Vehicle Registration

Hit-and-Run Cases: Government Ex-Gratia for Deceased’s Family increased to Rs 2 lakh from Rs 25,000.

Guardians or Owner of the Vehicle will be held responsible for traffic violations by Minors unless they prove the offence happened without their knowledge. Even Registration of the vehicle will be cancelled. The Minor will be tried under Juvenile Justice Act.

People who help Road Mishap Victims will be protected from Criminal or Civil Liability. It’s up to their choice whether to disclose their identity or not to police or medical staff.

Minimum Fine for Drunk Driving increased to Rs 10,000 from Rs 2,000

Minimum Fine for Rash Driving increased to Rs 5,000 from Rs 1,000

Minimum Fine for Driving Without License increased to Rs 5,000 from Rs 500

Minimum Fine for Over Speeding increased to Rs 1,000 to 2,000 from Rs 400

Fine for Not Wearing Seat Belt increased to Rs 1,000 from Rs 100

Fine for Talking On Mobile While Driving increased to Rs 5,000 from Rs 1,000

Motor Vehicle Accident Fund provide compulsory insurance cover to all the road users in India for certain types of accidents.

Re-modelling Vehicles to suit specially abled people made mandatory.

Contractors, consultants and civic agencies will be accountable for faulty design, construction or poor maintenance of roads leading to accidents.

6 Months time limit was set for an application of compensation to the Claims Tribunal with regard to road accidents.

No cap on liability for Third-Party Insurance. The Motor Vehicle (Amendment) Bill 2016 capped the maximum liability at Rs 10 lakh in case of death and Rs 5 lakh in case of grievous injury.

Time limit for renewal of Driving Licence is increased from one month to one year before and after the expiry date.

Government have powers to recall vehicles whose components or engine do not meet the required standards. Manufacturers can be fined up to Rs 500 crore in case of sub-standard components or engine.
