JC says he will start taking bribes for welfare activities

0

J.C. Prabhakar Reddy, a legislator of the ruling Telugu Desam party in Andhra Pradesh, on Saturday said he will start “accepting bribes” and “use the money for welfare activities” in his constituency as the state treasury was “cash-strapped”.

“I will take bribes from contractors. But I will take them by demand drafts. I will display the names of those who have given me the money. I will take the money for my constituency,” Reddy, who represents Tadipatri constituency in Anantapur district, said while speaking to reporters.

“Financial situation of the state prompted me to take this decision…. I will take white money. And I will show what I have done (with that money). “There is no money in Andhra Pradesh. How will we complete development works? Why can’t we do this?” he asked.

He claimed that several contractors who were executing government works in his constituency had offered him money though he had never accepted it until now. Reddy’s brother JC Diwakar Reddy is a senior TDP leader and a Lok Sabha member.

I Feel More Confident at No.3: Kohli

0

Ahead of the fifth and final match against South Africa here, India star batsman Virat Kohli on Saturday made it clear that batting at the No.3 spot in the One-Day Internationals (ODI) makes him feel at home and more confident.

Powered by a superb ton (138) from Kohli, India defeated South Africa by 35 runs in their fourth and penultimate match in Chennai to level the series at 2-2.

“I feel at home batting at No. 3. The reason is I have played a lot of games there. I have realised that No.3 is where my game is in international level. I have played at No. 4 very late. I am very sure and confident of my ability at No. 4 that I can stabilise the innings and go on to score a big one for my team. That’s always been my mindset,” Kohli said at the pre-match press conference here on Sunday.

“If I get in early at three, I have the option to analyse about the game what is going on and play my game accordingly. I want to execute my plans batting at No. 3. I feel confident that I can control the game better at No. 3. I felt very good at last game. If Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan fails, I can come in and take the game from there,” he added.

The 26-year-old said that the home crowd support at the Wankhede Stadium will be a big boost for India, adding that being part of such an exciting match makes him feel proud.

“A game like tomorrow is something I want to be a part of. You always want to be a part of big games for the team. The feeling you get after winning and after contributing is a special feeling. I am sure everyone will be geared up. We get a lot of support here. Wankhede crowd is amazing and that is something all cricketer wants in a final like game,” he said.

Kohli also backed fellow Delhi batsman Shikhar Dhawan, who has not being among the runs lately, scoring just 66 in the four matches of the ongoing five-ODI series.

Gain for Shruthi, pain for Tamannah

Gain for Shruthi, pain for Tamannah

The career span of our heroines is very less compared to heroes. Whenever new heroines arrive, the old heroines slowly fade away. For instance, entry of Samantha, Tamanna and Kajal brought down the craze of Trisha, Shriya and Ileana. In the same way, these heroines are losing out with entrance of new actresses like Shruti, Rakul and Raashi Khanna.

Among the new actresses Shruti Hassan is the favorite pick for star heroes and she is becoming equally famous in the Bollywood too. Recently Tamil director Linguswamy is planning to remake his hit film ‘Awara’ in Hindi. While Vidyut Jamwal is selected as the hero, he is said to be in search of the heroine. While many thought that he would cast Tamannah, who already did this character in the original, but we hear that he finally zeroed on Shruti Hassan.

The makers wanted a fresh heroine who scored a hit in Bollywood. Though Tamannah scored a big hit with ‘Baahubali’ in Hindi, the entire credit went to the director. Shruti Hassan was found apt as she scored two hits in Hindi with ‘Gabbar’ and ‘Welcome Back’. In this way Shruti’s craze is pulling Tamanna down.

Why Kerala is the best place to die in India?

0

It’s been sold as God’s Own Country. Over the years, its verdant landscape and attractive beaches have enticed millions of visitors from the rest of India and abroad. Its tourism industry projects celebration of life as its underlying ethos.

Now, Kerala is offering itself as the best place to die. The state boasts of being far ahead in palliative care in India. Its approach has been fine-tuned over the years by policymakers, health experts and civil society activists.

“Today palliative care has become a social movement in the state and the latest to join the bandwagon is the CPI-M, which has asked its cadres to form palliative cares in as many places as possible,” eminent oncologist, V.P.Gangadharan told IANS.

Kerala’s efforts received a feather in its cap when Singapore-based Lien Foundation praised the state’s provision of palliative care for patients with serious illnesses, in its 40-country Quality of Death study recently.

“While India ranks at the bottom of the Index in overall score and performs badly on many indicators, Kerala, if measured on the same points, would buck the trend,” said the ‘Quality of Death: Ranking end-of-life care across the world’ report.

“With only three percent of India’s population, the state provides two-thirds of India’s palliative care services,” the report released earlier this week stated.

Gangadharan, who is considered to be the darling of cancer patients, said this was bound to happen as Kerala had a sound foundation in basic healthcare.

According to A.C.Kurian, retired Christian priest and honorary director of the Pain and Palliative Care Society under the Pushapagiri Hospital in Thiruvalla, the success of the care is because of the infrastructure and team work.

“The hospital provides the infrastructure, including a ward, four doctors and 10 nurses for free. And there are a large number of volunteers,” he said.

They provide treatment to the weaker sections of society suffering from terminal ailments. Also, through extension activities, the family members of a patient who dies are also helped.

Kerala is also one of India’s first states to relax narcotics regulations to permit use of morphine by palliative care providers.
