A small time actress of Tamil cinema has been sentenced to life imprisonment by a court here on charges of murdering an aspiring film director.
The actress, Saritha alias Sangeetha, was pronounced guilty and sentenced to life imprisonment by Additional Sessions Judge Chandrashekar yesterday.
The judge also slapped a fine of Rs 5,000 on her.
The actress had allegedly strangulated M Selva, an aspiring Tamil film director, on March 6, 2007 as she was reportedly enraged with him for not offering her a big role in a proposed movie.
She was arrested and lodged in jail for the murder. However, she jumped bail and was absconding for seven years. She was rearrested in December last and was lodged at the Puzhal prison here.
