Vijay gets support for his “Mersal” movie from High court

On the Base of freedom of expression is for all, the Madras High Court on Friday said while expelling a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) documented by a legal advisor looking to renounce the censor certificate for tamil movie ‘Mersal’.

The censor certificate was issued to performing artist Vijay starrer ‘Mersal’ for its anti-Goods and Services Tax (GST) dialogues by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). The high court expressed that ‘Mersal’ is just a film and not real life.

The petitioner had contended that the censor certificate ought to be denied as the movie was full of “wrong purposeful publicity about India and fake dialogues and scenes which clearly prompt the confusion about the new tax collection system of India and the Goods and Service Tax Act, 2017 to the movie watchers.

No photo should be certified for public presentation which will bring down the moral standards of the individuals who see it and the common laws might not be so disparaged as to make sympathy for violation of such laws, he had contended.

The petitioner had additionally looked for a break remain on the screening of the movie which discharged on October 18. The court’s choice comes after the makers on last Saturday chose to remove the scenes which the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) protested.

The BJP took protest to what it named as “untruthful” with respect to the GST in the film and wanted dialogues on the central tax collection to be erased.

A scene in the move demonstrates a character conveying a fiery monologue in which he attacks the government’s inability to give free public medicinal services in spite of charging a national GST of up to 28 percent .
