Indian women have achieved their fundamental right to enter into temples along with men. They have been allowed the entry into sanctum sanctorium of the Trimbakeshwar swamy temple in Nasik on Thursday. Tight security arangements were made. A protest shut down by the local merchants and villager against the entry of women into the temple.

The president of Pune based Swarajya Mahila Sanghatana Vanitha Gatte, lead  a three member team into the temple and offered prayers at about 6a.m. Ms Vanitha Gatte said “we feel dhanya (blessed)to have taken darshan and this is the victory of stree shakti”.

The entry of the women into the temple shifted the policy of the temple restricting their entry to the inner sanctum. The temple was built by the Peshwas in the middle of 18th centuary. All these years till the Supreme Court’s judgement women were restricted entry into the temple of Trimbakeshwar in Nasik.
