More than1.13 crores of people have given up subsidy on gas cylinders. Consequently Rs.5ooo crores surplus amount is left with the goverment. Mr. Modi the P.M. under “Ujwal Yojana” has decided to supply free gas connections to the poor The value of the scheme is said to be 8000 crores.
The scheme comes into force from 1st May 2016 in Uttarpradesh at Baaliya, and Dhahodh in Gujarath on 15th May. 1.4 crores connections will be sanctioned in the first year.
People below the poverty line have to pay Rs.1600 for gas connection. LPG connections will be sanctioned to women only. Mr. Modi appeals to the rich to give up their subsidy on gas.
