HC issued notices to twenty defected MLAs

A major setback to Chief Minister led Telugu Desam government in Andhra Pradesh. On Monday, High Court of Telugu states has issued notices to twenty defected YSRCP MLAs who joined ruling TDP. The HC has begun its hearing on a petition filed by YSRCP MLA Y. Visweswara Reddy on Twenty MLAs who won the 2014 elections on YSRCP ticket and later joined TDP.

The Court asked the defected MLAs to give their explanation within four weeks. In the interim, the Advocate General argued the case is not eligible for hearing in the HC. Hence, the same case is pending in the Supreme Court. However, the High Court bench is not accepted with AG and dismissed his arguments.

Telangana Congress MLA Sampath Kumar filed a petition in Supreme Court in the wake of the MLAs joining the ruling TRS in Telangana from other parties. The petition was transferred to the Constitutional bench. The Supreme Court then questioned the delay in taking action against the defected MLA. Analysts opinioned that the Supreme Court comments on the issue are applicable to all defected MLAs from all states, who switch loyalties to other parties.
