The priest said that New Year must only be celebrated on Ugadi which falls in March/ April adding “English calendar is not for our tradition.
In Hyderabad one of the most famous Chilukuru Balaji temple cautioned its devotees with stringent activity on the off chance that they welcomed others saying ‘ Happy new year ‘ in the Holy place on January first.

The Telangana priest’s warning comes close in the heels of the Andhra Pradesh government’s order directing temples across the state to not celebrate New Year on January 1st. The Andhra government’s notification said that Ugadi in ‘Chaitra Masam’ is the actual new year as per Hindu tradition.
