A 26-year-old man burned himself to press the demand of merging of his native mandal Nagireddypalli back into Medak district, which became part of the newly established Kama Reddy district in the state.
According to Police reports, V Raju, the deceased, poured kerosene on his body and set himself on fire in the busy Tank Bund Road. While burning himself, Raju was demanded with shouting voice that his mandal should remain a part of the Medak district. He was taken to Gandhi Hospital immediately but he died during the treatment. A case has been registered in the matter. Telangana government had recently announced creating 21 new districts, taking the total number of districts to 31.
