GST Council failed to satisfy Telangana State government

At the GST Council meeting was held in New Delhi on Sunday to reduce the tax rates on 66 items. The Central government has ignored the request of Telangana to exempt its prestigious projects like Mission Bhagiratha and other irrigation projects from the GST.

The Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley didn’t paid attention to the demand of Telangana CM KCR for the reduction.

TS Finance Minister Etala Rajender exoressed disappointment over the GST Council who have not considered the plea by the TS Government.

He said that the state had sought tax rate reductions on 34 items, but the GST Council approved only two. The major representations on exempting tax on Mission Bhagiratha and irrigation projects were ignored. Other crucial representations on lowering tax on hotels, granite industry, affordable housing, small scale industries, bidi industry etc, were also not considered.

However, the state government will try to secure a few more tax exemptions in the next meeting of the GST Council on June 18, said Rajender.
