Heavy rains lashed Hyderabad: 8 Killed

At least eight persons were killed and several houses collapsed and low-lying areas were flooded due to heavy rains lashed Hyderabad. GHMC issued an alert to people not to come out from homes until the situation comes into control.

A woman and her two daughters died under a collapsed roof at Bholakpur while four others were killed in a similar incident at Ramanthapur. Several old houses collapsed either partially or fully in the city. Hussain Sagar water levels touched to danger levels with a heavy inflow of water from various directions. Water gushed into the booking counters at Khairatabad railway station. Several places like Bapuji Nagar and Boin Pally, Malakpet, Boudhanagar colonies were inundated and dozens of vehicles including bikes and cars were washed away.

Government announced attendance relaxation to schools under GHMC limits.  Several local trains were cancelled. Highest rainfalls of 9.5cm recorded in Amberpet while Malkajgiri received 8.3cm, Khairatabad 6.5cm and an overall rainfall was 6cm between 8am and 10am. Drain water gushed out of sewerage lines on main roads and cellar areas of apartments in colonies filled with rain and drain water. Power supply was stopped in several areas.
