SC issued notices to 20 MLAs & Speaker over joined TRS

Supreme Court has given a shock to K Chandrasekhar Rao led Telangana government on admitted several MLAs from the Opposition parties without seeking their resignations from their posts.

Supreme Court on Wednesday admitted a petition filed by Congress MLA Sampath Kumar over the challenging of defection of over 20 MLAs into the TRS without resigning. The SC has served notices on the MLAs and also Speaker in this regard. The court sought to know why the MLAs should not be disqualified under Anti-Defection Law.

After High Court rejected the Sampath Kumar’s plea in twice, he moved the Supreme Court, which has admitted his petition and issued notices to the MLAs and the Speaker. The TRS had won only 63 MLAs in the 2014 elections and subsequently, its strength had gone up to 90 with the defection of 12 TDP, eight Congress, three YSRC, one CPI and three independents.
