State government to provide 24×7 power supply to farmers which costs 7,000 crore

Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao assured to provide 24×7 power supply to the farmer from 2018 Rabi season which requires an amount of Rs 7,000 crore and 7,100 MW of power.

Now, the state is providing nine hours free power supply to the agriculture sector.However, the power department needs to augment the existing lines and the state government has to give more power subsidy for 24×7 power supply. As per estimation, the state has to spend Rs 6,500-7,000 crore on the power subsidy for 24×7 power supply and 7,100 MW power is required. Some official stated that no other state in the country is supplying 24×7 power to farmers.

The peak power demand in the state reached 9,191 MW in March. While, there was no power cuts. The agriculture pump sets would function from 6am to 9am. Before, it was 6,553MW when TS was formed. Later 2,500 MW was supplied to the agriculture sector. Further, TS government added 4,426 MW. It is expected that around 3,500MW solar power will be added by December 2017.New staff are recruited to meet extra work load. It is to create a record in the country to become first state to provide 24×7 power supply to farmers.
