Ever since the film “Udta Punjab” completed it has been in controvery with the cesor board. The hard hitting anti-drugs film set in Punjab’s heartland, refuses to die down.
The director of the film Abhishek Choubey is silent about the fate of the film. But the co-producer Anurag Kahyap, has turned wild calling the CBFC chairperson Pahlaj Nihalani “an extremely egoistic man.”
However Pahlaj puts the matter in perspective. All the prominent cities of Punjab are mentioned by name and shown as drug-infesed areas. We have restored the abuses thet we have advised to be deleted from the trailer including Alia Bhatt’s abusive language. Shahid’s character uses absuive language throughout the film. It’s one thing for an individual to be abusive. But how can we allow the whole of Punjab to be abused.”
Sources from the governemnt say, “No one told Kahsyap that all the references to Punjab have to be cut. But naming Punjab a a drug-infested state in the film is a problem.”
“The solution, according to the sources is to take out references to the Punjab elections and the election commission from the film.” – sources stated.
