Telangana state government has decided to construct a big barrage on River Godvari. The barrage, which is called as Sadharmat barrage, will be constructed at a place which is lying after the SRSP dam.
The barrage will have 1.79 tmc capacity and it will be used to irrigate 17,500 acres of land. The irrigation department of the state issued a GO on Thursday day to this effect. It gave administrative sanction for spending Rs. 516.233 croer for the construction of the barrage.
Interestingly, proposals for the construction of the barrage were actually prepared during the regime of erstwhile Andhra Pradesh state. However, they have been approved now after the formation of the Telangana state. The construction of the barrage will do away with the crop holiday in the area.
